Hey y'all,

I just dropped by the PO and picked up the 15" Ganga Ram Villager that Dan had on special while Yangdu was gone. Since Dan was shipping them out anyway I sent him some extra cash and had him make me a kydex sheath for it, and just got it today.

First the Fetal Ganga Ram. I figured "Fetal" since the "baby" is usually 17". This is a really nice blade. It may have a better blade than any of my villagers so far as far as grind and hammer marks. The handle is a little short but not bad, but I might want to take any sharp edges off the bolster. I think this is a Bura and has his thinner edge for deeper penetration. Handle has shrunk back a little from the bolster but that's a good thing because despite the shrinkage there are no cracks. I was somewhat hesitant to buy another horn handle since every one I have has cracked but this one may be safe. Especially if I seal it. Another thing I really like about this blade besides being light enough to pack with I think, is that it has a little less bend in the blade than most of my other Ganga's. This to me gives it more working edge and also it can be used more for slicing too. Overall a nice blade and while not being MUCH more weight than a Pen Knife or 12" AK it seems to be a bit more of a serious chopper.

Second Dan's sheath for it. Very nice. Fits perfectly, protects all of the blade, rides high on the belt and even has a little hole in the back at the tip that I assume is to let water drain out.

A great buy and a great setup. Thanks DAN!

Glad you like it, hollowdweller.

Here's a pic:

Very nice Dan. Love the belt loop, it's so much better than any ideas I've come up with for one. Mind if I use it? Just got some .125" kydex from McMaster-Carr, that would make an extremely sturdy khuk scabbard.

Thanks,
Steve

update on this:

I've already managed to put a bend in the edge of this  The edge was almost wire anyway so I took the belt sander and removed it. It was only maybe 1/16" or so. Went back over the whole thing with the sandpaper and strop and convexed the edge a little more. Watch out Khukuri Khonvention goers! this wood I just chopped for us is tough.

Despite being a 15" er this khuk IS a great chopper! Hopefully the edge will be OK now :D

Bring it on! I'm ready to roll...er...strike that...I'm ready to chop!

ps: *NICE* sheath!

.

That's a great looking sheath. I'd love to have Dan make one for my 17" Sgt. Karka WWII khuk(Best made Khuk I have). Maybe I'll send it to him when I have some extra cash.:D

Great work Dan.:)
