I was bored so I looked at all 150+ pages of the: "EDC - What's in Your Pocket(s)??" thread. I did not read them. I just looked at the pictures and my possibly wrong observation was there was about 21 partially serrated edge knive and about 6 fully serrated edge knives. Maybe I should have counted the plain edges but I wasn't thinking of a survey at the time.
It appears to me that there is a very strong preference to plain edge knives for EDC.

Does this seem right to you? If so why do people like plain edge knives or another way of putting it why is there an aversion to partially serrated knives for EDC.

When I did as search on this topic not much came up.

I see a partialy serrated as not having enough of either to be effective. I have better luck cutting with my edge on a plain edge over a serrated blade. Just don't care for them at all.

The question of serrated or PE comes up every once in a while in the threads. The general concensus on these threads usually agrees with your observation. Most prefer a plain edge. A few carry serrated. Very few carry combo.

For reasons: There are some things that a plain edge does much better than serrated. Serrated is better if you need to cut cordage, but a plain edge still works ok for that. You can go longer between sharpenings with a serrated, but will never get as wicked sharp as a plain edge. Most folks who EDC have no problems getting to a sharpener, so this is not usually a significant advantage. So overall, for what most people want an EDC for, a plain edge is better. Serrated looks cool to some folks. After while, the cool factor fades and the advantages of a plain edge become apparent.

A folder with a combo edge does not have room for an effective length of either.

At the end of the day, it's a personal choice, but most prefer a plain edge.

I think it is obvious that most people on this site like knives and are much more likely to know how to take care of them. Therefore they probably know how to sharpen their knives. I've noticed that in real life the people who carry partially serrated knives are those that couldn't sharpen a knife to save their life.
