I know I've mentioned this before but observing your four legged hiking companions and checking out what they are sniffing and looking at can often turn up some items of interest !

Checking where Maisy was sniffing revealed these Red-headed Cardinal beetles...

I then noticed Snicker was interested in something at this spot..

Upon inspection I found she was sniffing at this dead shrew, seems they give off quite a bad odour which explains why they are often killed and left uneaten !

Found a big wood ants nest with lots of activity from it's residents. I checked my compass and once again the nest was on the South Easterly side of the tree, always a good direction finder !

I love the scenery that you show in your pics.
The screw and the bugs were pretty cool.

Great pics Pit. Mrs Pit looks a little bored though.
Which knife is the little fixed blade? It looks all new and shiny.

I like it. Good looking little blade. I bet it would be a good skinner.

Great pics. Any more info on those beetles? I've never seen such brightly colored insects except for velvet ants, or lady bugs.

Edit to add: My wife often has that look while I am taking pics, especially knife pics :) Good thing they love us anyway eh?! :D
