I posted this question over in Traditional Folders as well. Trying to beat the hedges before all the birds are gone...

I have a smaller FFA commemorative (blue scales, brass bolsters, FFA insignia) I bought a long while back. Bought two at the time and sent one to my vo-ag teacher/FFA advisor along with a letter of appreciation. (I grew up in a rural area where everyone took vocational-agriculture classes--even if you were "college prep.")

Recently, I was looking at completed items on Schradebay, and I saw where an 8OT FFA knife had sold (still in the clam pack). I was kicking myself for not catching that one, but at the time it went off, I was still oblivious to Schrade's plight.

I would love to have an 8OT FFA commemorative. Anybody know where some of these knives might still be found?

There are ten FFA editions on ebay tonight. Six are Irish Imperial Lockbacks, one 33OTFFA, and three 8OTFFA's. They are on most of the time right now. I was FFA as well in rural Arkansas. My daughter is at the National FFA Greenhand Convention in Louisville, Kentucky right now as a delegate from her rural Tennessee school. She is a ninth grade student who has plans to go to be a vet. She's beat the boys at the county fair three years running in the hog rasslin competition. My sweetie is such a lady! I hope she gets her first deer this year. She went after the squirrels last year.

Codger_64, what search words are you using because I'm drawing a big goose egg on the 8OTs?

Edit: Duh. I finally just tried "FFA". Thanks Codger_64. I hope to pick one of these up.

Somebody must have seen this thread (or somebody else just really wants the one going off tomorrow). Price has been jacked up on it since yesterday.

Codger_64, you have any sense of what these normally go for?

Glad you stopped in again, Guyon. I just searched 'completed auctions' at Ebay, and it seems these things sell for $20 to $40 plus postage. Not bad for such a great looking knife. I just like the blue handles, I guess.
Possibly you have stirred up a little extra interest and bidding on the FFA 80OT by your posts here or in the Tradional forum, but just wait, there appears to be a steady but small supply of these things around. You'll get yours eventually. And of course now you got us guys keeping an eye out for you.

One of the first lessons I learned from a respected Schrade author and historian was that if you see a Schrade knife on ebay once, you will see that same model again and again. His words have proven quite true. Patience is the key to acquiring an example of a knife you desire without overpaying for it.

You would be amazed at how many knives touted as "rare", "scarce", etc. come up on ebay in a month's time. I set a "favorite search" in "my eBay" on several fixed Schrade patterns of particular interest to me, and the results are e-mailed to me once a day every day. This allows me to follow market trends for these particular knives and occasionally "cherry-pick" one for my collection at a very reasonable price.

No doubt we here in this forum do play a minor role in the interest and demand for Schrade knives on eBay, as we have hundreds of "visitors" every week who come here for information without posting questions or introducing themselves. IMHO, many are collectors looking for info on something they have seen and are considering buying, and some are dealers trying to get info on details and value of items they are going to list. A few more ( the ones I am most proud to help) are looking to replace a knife that they or their dad or grandad owned years ago. Most search engines direct specific inquiries to our posts, mainly because nothing exists on the web (or in print)even close to what we have here.

Codger "patience grasshopper, have patience!

Good information, good advice. Thanks, guys. Tracking prices on eBay is taking an understanding of "market value" to a new level.

Oh and I wasn't complaining about the auction price. Somebody half-way around the world might be the one who wants that particular knife. The beauty of eBay is that anybody can bid, and I expected I'd stir up a little interest if I posted about them. Problem was, when I searched after seeing that first completed auction, I kept trying "FFA Knife" and "FFA 8OT" and a few other combinations and kept coming up with nothing. Just wasn't hitting the right keywords. Funny. I do a lot of internet research in my line of work, and I'm usually pretty good at covering all the bases.

I'm sure one of those FFA knives will turn up in my pocket at some point.

Good advice Codger. I didn't know about the search feature on Ebay. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

Pretty neat, Codger. I would've like to have seen that blue Sharpfinger. They made some orange Sharpfingers too, didn't they?

I picked up a new FFA 8OT btw. I had contacted a seller of a previous auction a few days ago. Turns out the buyer didn't pay up, so I got it for $20 plus shipping/insurance. Can't wait for it to get here.

The blue sharpie I did not save a link to, but it and a red one were auctioned about the same time. Some of the orange ones are on right now. They also made the 165OT, 158OT, and 15OT in orange.

Good deal on the FFA knife! I'll probably try to get my daughter for christmas this year. Glad you finally got one, and at a good price as well!

Yeah, I kind of wish I'd picked up one of those orange 152OTs way back when I saw them at SMKW. Several years ago, they were only $15-$20. Oh well, I have a Wolverine that I really like in that blade shape. May have to pick up a Sharpie one of these days just to enjoy the 1095.

As far as the FFA knives go, are the bolsters solid brass? I assumed so, and I noted that on the 33OT FFA knife I own, they clean up mighty nice with a little Flitz. Brasso would work even better I suspect.
