Im looking at getting one of the two. I will be using it for backpacking and camp as my main wood processing blade. Im looking for any information or feedback a user of any of the two have on them. Thank you.

NMFBM, one of the .32"s, ALL the way

I wanted a FFBM for a couple reasons, one was the Noss destruction video ( :o ), the other was because of the flat spine for firesteel sparks

That was before I had the thought of just piggybacking something I could fling sparks with.

I've had a few and handled many fatty NMFBMs and just the feel, it's like a handgasm and you just get the urge to chop something. I like the extra weight and balance of the NMFBM over the FFBM, but both are solid models

I don't see how you could go wrong with either one. To be fair, I have not handled a NMFBM, but I have read nothing but rave reviews about them. My FFBM is my most frequently used Busse; I LOVE IT!

I wonder if anyone has both those knives side by side to compare (and for us to drool over).

I second this motion.
Thinking about NMFBM myself. wander what is the size and weight difference to the FFBM?
Also, Garth is ether of these available through custom shop?

The easy answer is both!! But if I had to do one over the other it would be the FFBM. I've used both camping and the FFBM seems to me have more ability to do chores around a camp than the NMFBM. I think it may have something to do with the geometry and the weight...

NMFBM's are still pretty readily available.

While I don't have a FFBM, I recently acquired a NMFBM ( thanks Be Prepared) and I can tell you it is a MONSTER. There is nothing I can envision this beast not being able to do! I had no experience with anything that big prior to this, and I must say, wow. In a worst case scenario, ie: stranded in the woods, car crash, heaven forbid a self or family defense situation, the NMFBM could do it all. My wife is a RN, and we were chopping limb off a tree in our yard. Her response was that she thought it would EASILY sever the radial/ulna bones of a forearm. It is darn near a sword. The pic is a HOGFSH, and a SFNO LE. This will give you a comparison. image.jpg

Not the best pic, but you can see, the NMFBM IS ALOT BIGGER

I don't have a FFBM but it's .32 and 10" blade and the NMFBM is .25+ and 11.5" blade. The NMFSH is also .32 (I believe) and 9.5" blade. You can still get the NMFSH from Busse (right?) so I'd go for the NMFBM if you can and/or the NMFSH right from Busse or fresh off the exchange.

Side question, is there anyone that updates Busse Collector? It's where I got the FFBM specs

Another thing to consider is that not all NMBFMs are created equally.

One of them is just under .25" and the others are all in the .28-.30 range. The thinner one sure is a joy to swing...........nice accuracy, not really tiring. The others hit with authority but are quite tip heavy (not necessarily a bad thing) and have noticeably more weight.

My FFBM is what some called an FFFBM because it has a full flat grind instead of a saber grind. I've only used it on some small pieces of pine so far and it seems to not be very different from any of my NMFBMs or CGFBM in regards to turning this into kindling. Personally the extra length of the NMFBM makes it my favorite even though they all seem to chop just as hard.

I have both, you can't go wrong with either one , I prefer the ffbm for multi tasking and the nmfbm for pure chopping , for camping I would probably bring both :) but if I have to choose the ffbm is more versatile

My NMFBM is certainly one of my favourite Busse's but I carry around a FFBM (.32 Sabre ground penetrator tip) as my edc go to chopper, big job knife. Honestly the thing is awesome and the slightly shorter blade makes it easier to wield and use.
It is REALLY hard to choose between the two so I suggest you buy them both, check them out yourself and sell the loser!:)

Have fun and let us know what you finally choose.
Cheers

The NMFBMLE made clearing some trees and brush at the lake a breeze. I EDC a CGFBM for the lighter weight, ease of use and because she is just an old friend by now. The NMFBM would certainly handle any big knife chore while camping.

No wrong answer to the question. Both are great knives but for me bigger is always better. There is just something beautiful to me about the NM treatment.

I'm not a backpacker, but I can't see packing either of these heavy tools for an extended trip. For car camping, then the skinny CGNMFBM would be the better wood chopper, assuming that you would also have a more suitable camp kitchen blade.

If you are doing more hiking than camping, SY 1311 would be my choice. Lotso chopping? NMFBM. The regular FBM is a nice weight between the former 2, but I'd skip right over the FFBM and go NMFBM.
