Considering one or more of the new FFBM's, but need some help. What's the difference between Saber & Flat Ground? How thick were the FFBMs? Are the .310 Saber Ground FBMS thicker/heavier than the FFBMs? Does anyone have any pics of black/red, blue/black, black/tan G10 on a black coated FBM?

Thanks,

GregB

The FFBM's are also saber ground, not flat ground. I'm not sure if the new Saber FBM's are ground any different than the FFBM. They might just be slightly thinner stock.

The LE is a full height flat grind.

The wiki link above is referring to the type of grind on the EDGE. The grind description on Skunk's order page refers to the type of grind along the entire vertical plane of the blade from edge to spine. A flat grind or full-height flat grind is just that, follows the same plane all the way up. The Busse FBM LE is full-height flat grind as is the BATACLE.

A saber grind goes from the spine up the vertical plane of the blade then changes angles near the spine (usually about 3/4 of the way up the blade) forming a shoulder that is a flatter angle.

See this pic. The top two blades (NO-E and BA-E) are full height flat grinds. The bottom blade (BATAC CG) is a saber grind. You can see the visible change in grind angles on this one. It's the line about 3/4s of the way up from the edge.

This is hard to describe. Basically and I know you will understand this, your RAT DADDY is full-height flat grind, while a RATWEILER AND RATMASTIFF are saber grind. Hope this helps. Pictures are worth a thousand convoluted words.

Read it again, you are incorrect.

Flat ground—The blade tapers all the way from the spine to the edge from both sides

Sabre ground—Similar to a flat ground blade except that the bevel starts at about the middle of the blade, not the spine. It produces a more lasting edge at the expense of some cutting ability.

Mike, the pics cleared it up for me, check your PM's:D

I caved, ordered the black & blue G10. Fought the urge to buy the black & tan as well, threw it back and it's still there, some one take away my temptation, please. I had a sage FFBM and I liked it, but thought it was a little heavy, I don't expect this to be any lighter, but I'm curious to try the mags and to see it the slightly thinner stock makes a difference in the "feel". I guess I'll be tyring to beat my wife to the mailbox for the next week or two.
