Hey there guys.

I'm about a month away from purchasing a mint OD FFBM and I want to make it a user.

It'll be coming out on hunts and camps with me and sometimes be on my belt and other times in my pack.

Question is : Kydex or Cordura? I don't want leather, and I want it to be very durable and comfortable. I'm leaning towards Cordura but can people post their experiences with different makers and styles, maybe post a couple of pics?

I have a user sage AD that has a kydex sheath ala rainwalker and its great, but I kinda think that kydex on such a large item will be not as successful.

Thanks guys.

It depends on the design and execution, of course, but kydex can be a very good way to go.

I'm thinking a fatty would fit in a SY DF sheath.

Maybe with some mods to the inside liner of the sheath. Otherwise, I think the Fatty is a bit too wide.

Oh hey I was also looking for a sheath. So you guys say this sheath from SY fits a regular CGFBM?

I have a few of these sheaths that I bought when they first came out. I just broke out the one that my BM-E rides in, and I tried it with a few FBMs.

FBM CG - fit was snug, but the knife would go in the sleeve
FBM SE - fit was snug, and the knife ALMOST would go in the sleeve; last couple of inches were a no-go
FFBM - no way without modifications to the sleeve

I prefer a kydex liner *at least* on a knife I can fall on and dismember myself with...:foot:

I own and use Buy Brown on several occasions, and I also have a CGFBM in a Semper Paratus sheath that I love.

The Semper Paratus is a drop-leg Cordura with Kydex liner, custom fit for the CGFBM. The CGFBM rides in it in my pack just as well. Hope that helps.

I should of stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night :foot:, I had no ideal the FFBM was that much of a beast. Guyon is being kind by saying, "with some mods to the inside liner of the sheath." The sheath I picked up from Scrapyard fits loose on my CGFBM, in fact if I tip it with the knife in it it'll fall right out, which made me think maybe.:foot: Live and learn, live and learn.

Well, these sheaths from SY do vary somewhat, I noticed (I bought 3 of them). However, to fit a FFBM, you'd have to pull the plastic liner (I don't think it's kydex), pop the glue loose, and do some pretty substantial reshaping somehow. The FFBMs are FAT!

The spine shot tells the story. L to R: SHBM, BM-E, CG FBM, FBM SE, FFBM, FBM LE.

You can boil the plastic liner in a pot of water to mold it to fit a FFBM. It's not difficult.
