I'm using a FFBM to carve a spoon just to show that it can be done.
I used the FFBM to split the round, hog off material, and even the shaping of the handle and bowl.
I will use a hook knife to carve the inside of the bowl when it's time but I'll wait for that until I make sure I don't screw up the blank.
Oh yeah, this is well-seasoned wood so there's no risk of cracking, checking, or splitting--just the risk of a poorly-placed chop that takes off the handle or a big chunk of the bowl.
