So, I'm just about finished with mod'ing my BK10. It's been stripped, deramped, jimped, swedge point tapered, pommel pointed, edges sanded to 220, and the blade hand-sanded to 600grit. It's just about ready to be sent off to Dex for some pants.

BUT ... the woodshop just got in a 1x30 belt sander and I've been researching how to use it and found numerous YT vids on regrinding knives when the thought suddenly popped into my head -

Why not do a full flat grind on the 10?

Surely, someone has already tried this. Search didn't find a thread on it. Anyone got any ideas or comments?

This is a cool idea, but my question would be what is the benefit of a Ffg on this knife? It's not a slicer, and the saber grind is better for wood splitting IMHO. I realize that on this forum, the answer very well may be "why not!" 😉

Your work to date looks good.
Call me back in 10 years when you've moved that grind to the spine with that toothbrush of a grinder on HARDENED STEEL. I have a 2x72" 1.5HP KMG and I wouldn't try that. Besides, you'll wreck all that hand-sanding and have to do it over again.

Start making a knife of your own from scratch. You'll be done sooner and with less pain, RSI, broken machinery, and fewer emotional scars.

(ETA: yes, OF COURSE a FFG 10 would be awesome.)

With the wide chord on the Becker knives, and the BK10 already being 3/16in thick, I'd imagine that it should do just fine as a FFG. And I'm trying to remember... I think I may have seen one, but after a few minutes of searching I still haven't found it.

I'd say go for it, I think it would be great.

Three years ago I did a full convex grind by hand on a BK7 and have done many modified Beckers. The 7 and others look good and are very sharp, but daizee is right, start making your own. I have been buying steel, purchased a Wilmont grinder and am putting together a basic shop to make my own designs from scratch. And once this winter mess leaves, I can finish the scales and mods that have had to stay on hold.

I'm not bustin' on ya Travis, I just like to save people from themselves. :D

Here's a picture of a 1x30" belt 'grinder'... sitting on the work table of a REAL grinder:
