So this knife has been wet, alot. Subjected to chicken liver goo, beef blood, fish guts, cutting line off hook eyelets, cutting weeds, twigs, and push cutting with the tip against funky stumps in addition to the other daily cutting I use it for. I have had it for months, and really never needed to touch it up much since I took it to 17 degrees. The length has only just become so dull it won't cut line so much as snap it nice, unless I drag it along the edge anyway. I have never taken it apart to clean it, I don't stop fishing to dry it off, and I've left it outside a time or two on accident on the bank after a night of catfishing. Time for some TLC and why not snap a photo or two.

Yeah, it's dirty...

Some rust.

Suprisingly this all just clean with just a rag.

No rust to be found on or under the liners, and I was sure this is where I would find a spot.

You can see what color it is under the grime.

Though actually after I used some soapy water and a brush there is some discoloration. Not sure if I used something to clean it once to cause that, or if it is just pocket friction. Kinda curious, but it don't bother me a bit.

Reassembled and freshly sharpened. Any rust wiped off the VG10 with 0000 steel wool very easy. If I didn't know what it has been through I would never guess.

Nothing FFG delica owners don't already know, but I thought I'd throw in 2 cents. It's one heck of a slicer, gets very sharp and keeps it, very handy opening, probably my most carried little clip on pocket knife.

Wow! What a testimonial to the quality of the Delica. Thanks for sharing it.

A real life testimonial like yours is a zillion times better than the average review. I love to see a knife get some real world usage like that. And I'm pretty sure it makes the knife happy too. Thanks for that.

I'm pretty much colorblind - is that blue or purple?

Picksmith - really appreciate your "review" of the Delica 4. Just got an Endura 4 and now I know I can look forward to a lot of hard use without hesitation.

Powernoodle - I am almost certain that is a purple Delica.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the positive comments. Took me weeks to put that beating on 'er. It is purple, because... well I don't have any purple knives. Purple delica trumps el cheapo tactical one hander in every situation that isn't aimed at the trashcan. I would avoid "hard use" with any FFG because the current definition seems to be closer to a destruction test than reasonable use. I did use it to cut several lengths of soft steel wire and carve up a pop can on the side of the road for an emergency automotive patch. No chipping, really no overly drastic dulling. That's when it took it's spot in my pocket. It replaced my other 2 fishing beaters because of superiour edge durability, they rusted, chipped and busted. What good is a dull knife you have to fight to open. The bank is hard on blades, but babying my nice EDC to "save it" was totally unneccessary. It has shrugged off use that has destroyed a few others I thought could take it. Next Spydie is definately an FFG endura. Not purple.

THANKS for the post.
"real world" The ultimate test track.

I always tell newbies that every knifeknut needs a Delica.

Have you considered trying out a Spyderco Salt 1? Same specs as a Delica & no rust ever!

Great review and pics!
I have the blue Endura and it's an incredible knife for the $
Sharpens easily, comfortable to carry, and it's durable.

Great real life insight. Thanks for that. Now I love my purple FFG Delica even more :D

Chicks dig the blue one, you know. I'm just saying.

Yeah, to the extend that they want one of their own :p Or is this just ME?! ;)

The Delica FFG was one of my "gateway" knives into collecting and appreciating quality pocket knives. Back then my honing skills were not good but it was a great knife. Don't know what happened to it. Your post reminded me of the quality of the 1095 carbon on my Great Easterns. Although this steel is not stainless, it is surprisingly resistant to rust and corrosion. Try one, if you haven't already. Thanks again for the post.
