So I really want a sprint run Manix with a FFG. I honestly dont care what steel is on the blade but what I am trying to figure out is how much weight is saved by going from a hollow grind to a FFG. I know the sprints have skeletonized liners which is also a weight saver, but since I dont want to pay secondary market price on a spint, what I am asking if how much weight do you think would be saved by getting the standard S30V Manix and having someone like Ban Tang do a regrind on it to bring it to a FFG?

On my scale, a standard Manix 2 with hollow grind and no milling of the liners is 5.25 oz. My sprint (orange) S30V with FFG and milling is 4.25 oz. I'm guessing that the milled scales save .6 oz., but thats just a wild guess. So that would mean that going from hollow to FFG saves 0.4 oz. So basically you might save about half an ounce by getting a regrind. The sprint knife is noticeably lighter than the standard Manix 2. But if you want real weight savings, plus FFG, then the Manix lightweight is the winner at 3.0 oz. And you get the sweet deep carry wire clip, but you lose the solid feel and heft of the G10 Manix lineup.

Peace out.

I have reground my regular hollow-ground manix two into a FFG. I could tell a bit of a difference but not to much. I did feel the difference in the blade itself though.

I really don't care about a knives weight too much. I EDCed a ZT 0200 for about 4-5 months and never had a problem. The real benefit you're going to get out of getting the blade reground to a FFG is the huge boost in cutting performance. It's pretty great.

Well here is why I am even considering doing this. I want a Spyderco as the ones I have held felt great in hand this inculdes the Sage 1, Manix 2, and PM2. The problem I have with the Sage is its not made in Golden (I do not want to start an arguement on this, as this is my personal view and I do not try to push it on others as such I do not want others trying to push theres on me) and my issue with the PM2 was the tip seemed to me to be extremely thin and fragile. So I am left with the Manix however it did not seem to cut nearly as well as the others since they were FFG but the tip on it did seem to be much more sturdy than that of the PM2. If I am wrong in any of these things please by all means let me know.

I definitely see where you're coming from. To me the PM2 tip is just fine but I can see where some people might have a problem with their uses. When I reground My Manix the tip got very lean. It was thinner than the PM2 defintely.

I think the hollow grind the Manix comes with kind of prevents a stout blade tip when reground. I took as little steel off as I could while making sure I covered everything and that was the result. I've never handled a Manix sprint so I don't know if the blades are thicker than the hollow ground ones or not but I imagine they would be close. I honestly think the PM2 tip is sturdier than the hollow ground Manix but that's just me. Have you looked at the Military? I think it may be the same thickness as the PM2 but I'm not sure.
