FHM as users

I've had 3 FHM for 3 full days now (actually 4 but the pen is too weak) that I use. These are great as users (manipulation users, they'd have to be sharpened to be used as utilitarian knives). They are really tight when you first get them but if you continually flex the joints and work them then after a couple of days they will loosen up. I would highly encourage people who want something a little bit better than a Jag or china cheapie (IMHO) but not as expensive as a BM to get a FHM balisong from Susan (since she is the only one who sells them currently and for fairly good prices). Anyone else who has opinions about FHM balisongs please give them. Thanks!!

I like 'em, but not as every day users.

The problem is the way the blade slams into the handle liner.

I wish someone would just go over there and say "Look, you guys make some nice stuff, but I have one word for ya'.......KICK"

getting 'em open
is half the fun!

Is it possible to put a drop of solder or something down inside the liner where the 'kick' on the FHM would hit? That way you wouldn't have to sharpen them after 5 minutes of manipulation.

nope.. solder stuff wont work.. it just gets squeezed to smithereeens. the first thing I usually tell a guy who buys fhms from me is that it is not a good user. But most of my buyers want a wall hanging conversation piece anyways

Hi all - I use FHM's all the time! My double edged one (thank you Susan

)fits perfectly in the 'knife pocket'(that's what they call it!) in my Carhart carpenters jeans! Once the pivots are broken in it manipulates like a dream, and since it is a waspwaisted shape only the 1/4" on each side of the widest part of the swell comes in contact w/the liners! So I have a fun knife, cool looking, that is sharp for most of its length!

OK - so I carry my custom PC Tanto bali too....and a linerlock....and.......

I too have acquired three of the FHM's. Nice enough in the display but ever since I received the BM42 I haven't devoted a whole lot of time to them.

Mine are 3' blade models. The larger STYLES are probably nice also.

In reference to Jags...I have no comment :0

What is the going rate for a 5' blade?

Someone tell me a little more about FHM balis please. Do they go by any other name? Does 1SKS have them? I may know what they are and just dont realize it, but I would appreciate a little info.

A FHM is a Filipino Hand Made, it is only made in the Philippines, no 1sks does not have them. knifezilla used to have them but not anymore. The only place I know to get them (besides going to the Philippines and picking them up) is to get them from Susan.

I know of a gentleman in Ohio that has them on a first come-first serve basis. That's where I got mine and he is a noble businessman. Various styles and lengths.

Email me and I'll forward his email address.

For those of you who have only seen FHM alone in pics or with other FHM's, here is my
9 1/16 " FHM vs my 9.4" BM 42;

closed it is obvious that the 42 is larger:

but open you can see that the gap has been closed:

lastly, here is a pic showing the difference between the blades, "But wait Cameron, the handles aren't lined up right!", that is correct, I lined them up by where the blade starts, just above the kick:

You can see that the FHM actually has a larger blade than the 42, the 42 has a larger ricasso (is that used correctly Chuck?) or space between where the handles end and the sharp edge begins. Hope this helps anyone visually.
