i was taking a look at the balisongs offered for sale at balisong.com
just wondering if anyone's held one of these or heard about the quality?

thanks!

I got 2 from Armand a couple of months ago.
A Balisong Sword & a Byente Nuebe Kris. I'am
very happy with the quality of the knife.
To my knowledge they are the best source of
FHM balisong on the Net :D

DevilBoy...Hiya :) You have to to a little working with the FHMs to get 'em swinging nicely, but they are fun!! Most of the blades are made from 52100 High Carbon steel, so some "extra" care from rusting is necessary, but not lots if you take good care of them.

Most are truly handmade pieces, but "tight" when you get them. Clay has a nice little write-up on loosening the pivots on his site. You also may have to re-pin them now and then if you really swing 'em lots, but they are a nice piece depending on what you are paying, and the quality of the Narra Wood or Kamagong inserts used.

Now and then you will find a nice one with Mountain Stag inserts, but that is getting more scare for the Batangas makers. Most of the antler material will be Deer Horn or "other" bone.

Grab one and fool around with it! :) They are something different!

Yeah, they take a little breaking in, but they are all custom handmade knives. Some are really beauties...

I would say that you won't be disapointed.:)

Most are poop in my opinion. As far as I know it would take 2 month expedition over there to find one equaling the quality of a Benchmade.

Hey devilboy,

Just my .02.

I'm satisfied with the FHM I received from them.

Agent-A1 has touched upon a good point, even if I don't totally agree.

Owning both FHMs and BMs, it's like comparing apples and oranges.

FHM: -Need care for the high carbon blades.
-Takes some breaking in to get them swinging just right.
-Needs some sharpening to get it "Scary" sharp.
-Each knife is an "Individual" work (the HM in FHM).
-Some like their blades in lengths longer than 4" and in
different shapes not always available in BMs (clip-point,
kris, bowie, dagger, etc...).

BM: -A little higher price tag.
-Mostly production pieces (non-unique) choices of handle
material/color, blade design, blade length are limited.
-Less to no worry about rust.
-Swings sweetly right out of the box.
-Sharp right out of the box.
-Easier to get the knife back to seller/BM if there is a
problem.

My advice...if you have the money get one of each :D.

If you have to choose, ask yourself why you want one. Also, what will be it's primary use (other than flipping ;)).

Happy shopping...LD
