Have an old large Sebenza without a clip. Seems to have fiber (not bronze) washers. Was this original?

I cannot remember a time when the washers were not a bronze and that is a loooong time.

Are you sure it's a real Sebenza?

I think so but I'm going to have to determine that. It's not with me at the moment since I'm not home. Bought it from a dealer maybe 20 years ago. Not many copies then? I'm hoping some were made that way or that someone just modified the washers.

So the other question is are you sure that the washers are not bronze? Take the knife apart and check.

IIRC the early Sebenza did have washers other than PB.

Technically, Pb= Lead as far as the periodic table goes...I guess it works to abbreviate Phosphor bronze, but may confuse someone ;)

The all caps gives it way from good old plumbum....I don't think lead washers would be a great hit. :D:thumbup:

I have only seen phosphor bronze bearings on the Sebenzas.

Would it be possible to take a few photos?

I'm seeing some comments on the web that some early P Sebenzas came with nylatron washers? If true, it must be very few knives. I guess this may be a question for the Reeve organization.

As an update, Anne Reeve verified that the very early P Sebenzas were built by CRK with nylon washers. I was pleased to verify this piece was original.

Late to the party (as usual), but I've seen this too. I have one or two early knives with nylon washers. The switch to phosphor bronze was one of the early "silent" upgrades that Chris is known for making in during mid-production runs.
