Fiberfix as a guard for an overstrike?

The Husqvarna splitting axe doesn't come with a guard for overstrikes. Could Fiberfix be used as a poor man's guard?

I doctored a friends el-cheapo axe with fiberfix just under the head. I did a cord wrap just for aesthetics but I don't see why the fiberfix wouldn't work by itself. I've never tried splitting with it though so I don't know how it holds up to impacts.

My dad, a frugal fellow if ever there was one, uses squares cut from a pair of old neoprene waders held on with electrical tape as his over-strike guard of preference.

I think itll work just fine. Ive used fiberfix on a few things and have been really impressed with the strength and durability of the stuff. I even put some on an old crappy knife that was missing a handle and then went out and batoned with it and saw no damage.

I just watched a video of Wranglerstar making an over strike collar with metal that turned out really well. It reminded me of this topic I started. Fiberfix isn't going to be perfect, but it might do just enough to save the handle a bit.
