Has anybody seen or used this stuff???(FiberFix) I used some today to fix something at work and am pretty impressed with the stuff. Its basically resin soaked mesh tape that you soak in warn water for a few seconds and then apply like tape. It dried hard enough to sand after about 5 minutes and seems to be very strong and very adherent. I really want to get some more to try a quick and easy handle wrap on an old tanto blade ive had around for ages. Ill let yall know how that goes but i was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this stuff??

Interesting product, cant see that you could ever make a nice looking handle with something like that tho?

well it dries really hard and you can sand it. it comes in different sizes so i was thinking of starting with the 4" wide and then try to do a real simple tsukamaki type wrap over that by folding the 1" wide in half. its really grippy when its dry so im also thinking of trying it on a machete or hatchet too. Not thinking its going to be stunning but i think i could get an interesting and functional result from it and its so simple i think i would be remiss to not try it.

The questionn would become how comfortable will it be when finished. And how aethetically pleasing can it be made.

If it can fullfill those two criteria theres no reason it couldnt catch on. Havent looked at the product but this is how discoveries are made :p

Its worth a go. If it doesn't work I'm sure you could sand it all off

Really??? it says that its supposed to be waterproof after it cures. Have you tried it on something? I hear alot of people who have tried it on leaking pipes complain about it not working but from what ive seen it seems like a pretty solid chunk of epoxy and mesh

Brian

Does say its waterproof. Being watertight on pipes is another matter but you don't need it to form a perfect seal.

I actually found a site where a guy used it for a handle on a knife he made as a beater and it sad that after 2 weeks of beating and throwing it was still solid. Now ill have to swing by the Home Depot near work to grab some. I went by a different one today and spent 20 mins with 3 employees looking up and down one aisle until they eventually said they didnt know what happened to it but it was supposed to be right there:rolleyes:. This is definitely on the agenda for this weekend though so we will see.
