anyone ever thought out of making a knife out of all fiberglass? or has made one? by all.....the only material you could use is the resin and the glass.....i was toying with the idea at work today well using some resin to strengthen a piece of piping, realized the stuff is....hard, and could be sharpened easily....any ideas....pictures?

No offense but......Why dont you just "skip the middle-man" and wear a sign that says. " Send me to prison" .

I'd rather not spend time in 4x8 for something useless. I'm not being preachy, I wish we could live in a proper society , where anything goes. But we dont :(

several versions of synthetic material boot knives were available some years ago from the combat/secret ops catalogs. Fiberglass on one and glass-loaded nylon on another, IIRC. micarta has been used, too. They wouldn't hold an edge, but were meant for one-stick use, so to speak. I don't know if they're still available.

I have done more fiberglass work than anyone would want too.....I'd vot a NO on making a knife from one....

What would you do with it? Not much I dont think .

this all kind of started a contest at work "who could make a knife out of whatever is around them", and yeah, that would be quite the mess...glasswork sucks

on the cover of the Dec BLADE theres a knife made by Warren Thomas which is carbon fiber and has an imbedded Ti edge, but i don't think glass would really work for makin a knife out of. it's a wee bit too brittle.

fitzo, you can still get em. there's all sorts of poly stuff in most knife catalogs.

I've made a couple out of corian.
maks real pretty letter openers and it comes in a wide variety of colors.

that letter opener idea doesn't sound half bad, i've actully seen some pretty cool fiber weave's that can be obtained other then the regular fiber cloth....a little bit of creative sanding/filework and some paint...could make a cool gift to someone that "has it all"....then again i might just scrap the whole idea:confused:
