Like many folks here, I enjoy shooting. I go often on the weekends and almost every Thursday night I participate (and generally perform poorly) in a practical pistol shooting comp. Recently, my shooting practice took an interesting turn. I purchased my first 1911 and have become obsessed with the platform.

Fiddlebacks and 1911s are similar in many ways. Both are steeped in tradition, both are built to last, both can be tools and art, and most of all both are just cool!

I am sure I am not alone, and that others here love 1911s. Post your pics of 1911s and Fiddlebacks here.

So, I'll start. Here is my first 1911, a Dan Wesson Valor Black 45, and my favorite Fiddleback.

You definitely have great taste in knives and handguns, those are both superb examples.

very nice!
i wish I would have kept a Bobtail when I was a Dealer for CZ/Dan Wesson

I am still breaking in the DW, but after 150 flawless rounds I am really impressed.

Vance, I have yet to shoot a bobtail, but am going to rent one at the range on soon.

Not a fiddleback, but you get the idea. :)

Neato thread. Love that DW.

I don't own a 1911 personally, but I sure do like too look at them! Looking forward to seeing more pictures in this thread.

Wow! Those are beautiful pistols.

The Thursday comp is at Ben Avery. It's called the Cactus Cup Match. Although some of the guys are competitive, most are just there to have fun, practice and improve. Everyone I have met there is really friendly and all new shooting others are welcome. There are a number of really good shooters, and race guns like your beauties are not uncommon.

This thread needs more cowbell - I mean Fiddlebacks and 1911s!

Yep, that's what I assumed. I'm on the opposite end of the metroplex. That's even farther than the other options at Usery Pass. The start time would require me to take 1/2 day off work during the week or sacrifice the one day of rest on the weekend to make the match start times. I'm guessing I'd have to be up by 4 AM to make the weekend match. I miss competing, but not that much....I hate mornings!!!!

Humor me for a moment, what are the differences between a 1911 and something like a glock 19 or HK p2000sk?

Weight, grip angle, firing and safety mechanisms. The glock is striker fired, the HK is hammer fired and can be DA or SA/DA. In stock config, both will have rather long trigger stroke and reset compared to a stock 1911. And I would argue (my personal opinion) you would never be able to tune the trigger on either as well as a 1911. Although, many contemporary Glock tigger modifications can be quite good, they just won't ever feel the same as a 1911 due to the differences in the firing mechanism.

Thanks Gus and yes that Sneaky Pete is double edged. It's one of the first true dagger grinds that Andy did on a Sneaky. Didn't sell with sharp top edge, but only took minimal effort to get both sides like razors.

 Cool! I like it even more now! :)
