ok well i got my machete late last week but i am not off on weekends right now so the review had to wait until today. i took out some monsters today w/ the 12 incher. was out with the busse b-11, esee junglas, a cold steel kukri, and the fiddle back 12 inch machete.

My brother, our friend juice, me and my little one mad dog :) set out into the woods. let me start out with the snow was at that horrible point where its almost solid but not enough to support you so you end up falling through all the time. anywho. led by my fearless little one we set off around noon. we haven't had a chance to make a sheath yet but its coming, but the machete was just in hand on the walk into the woods. let me say this thing slices through green stuff (even frozen) up to 1 inch in diameter like freaking laser. its amazing. if you have 4 wheeler trails that you clean up every spring this is a must have for sure, or a hunting lease and you need to clear trails same deal a must have.

so we got out to where we thought was a good spot and we started to set up camp. getting the fire pit ready, clearing the area, making the firewood, playing w/ the little one, all the good stuff. well the fiddleback 12 incher was chopping hard dead wood very well, (surprisingly so for such thing stock) it batoned well for a thin long blade. also make good fuzz sticks though that was a bit more work than w/ a smaller blade. we were about to get the fire started and as i looked over i see our friend juice smacking the knife with his hand cause his baton log broke. as i started to say don't do that i heard the ohhhh shit and saw the blood. the busse basic 11 had bit him and bit him bad. about a inch long and what appeared to be to the bone and possibly through the tendon. i washed it out and patched him up with the first aid kit. they gave him 3 stitches just to keep it closed and he has to see a specialist tomorrow for the final patch work.

so not a ton of pictures but enough and i beat the hell out of it so i feel i can give it a pretty decent review. also something i left out of the above that is very well known about andy. his handles are amazing. they feel so good in the hand even when chopping on harder woods for prolonged periods.

if you don't own one get out and buy one as its about a good of woods tool as you can get. mix it with a sak farmer and i think you would have a great woods bumming/camping set up. on to the pics

didn't get the chance to get them all laid out to take a pic in the woods but now i know to do that first for sure.

the set up that caused all the problems

either way i know it wasn't the most detailed as everything was cut short after only a couple hours, but i got enough time in with the machete for sure and counting all the boxes its slain. i can easily vouch for this awesome tool. its light and fast in the hand. the contours of the handle and blade are amazing, the tip is sharp and good for drilling, all in all you can't beat it for the price.

thanks a ton andy for a great piece of kit. i love it and plan to have it with me on most of my woods outings

Nice pics and write up - Hope your friend heals quickly

How did the machete fair on larger wood? Compared to B11?

Neato review, and side by sides. I'm very glad your friend is OK, and wasn't cut with mine. That happened on the spine of a knife?

Thanks for the review. As you can see, I had miscounted, and did have a black one for you...

the machete did well on larger wood. if it was super hard the b11 and added weight definitely helped. but if you were stuck with just the machete and were forced to chop up some older thick hard wood it would definitely be up to the task.

i am very impressed with the machete. over all for the price you would be hard pressed to find a better woods tool

nice review, I love my 12incher, that with one of my smaller fiddlebacks makes a perfect, light weight set up, now I just need to get back out to the woods.

Cool - Thanks for the info. I have a 16 waiting on me as soon as I can get up to Andy's to pick it up

Sounds like your little girl has some good parents too  Pretty cool about her taking care of your Bud's wound and then helping him walk out - very sweet :)

I was going to use my hand for a baton but I guess I won't do that now, I was also thinking of limbing my trees in the backyard with my forehead but maybe I will hold off on that as well! Just kidding, hope your buddy gets well soon. Beautiful machete. Usually those two words don't go together but in this case they certainly do.

Pete

i bet the 16 will be a chopping machine. the added forward weight. i think for my next one i am gonna go for the 16 or 18. but for this 12 i am definitely gonna do a sweet kydex set up that is molle compatible so i can always have it on my pack or at least with me. its so light you almost forget your carrying it.

and thanks for the compliment, we do what we can with her for sure :) though she is a bundle of trouble lol. she gets that from her mom though :)

yeah it certainly wasn't smart but he isn't quite a savvy in the woods and around knives as a lot of us. he is still learning and both my brother and I felt bad as we should have been paying more attention to him but like he told us, he is a grown ass man and should have known better than to smack the knife with his had.

and yes the machete's are very good looking. Andy definitely has them set up right for sure

I understand. I took my father in law shooting once. I thought I had him settled in and pretty comfortable with his SW model 65 (mine, but he has borrowed it for the last 10 years) and the next thing I know he launches a round over the berm. I paid much more attention after that.

The functionality of the 12 is awesome. It handles all my chopping needs yet is so light I hardly notice it on my belt. After I got mine I decided to just skip the Junglas. I did order another ESEE-4 for really rough use, but my budget was cut short by paying my government rent (peoperty taxes) there was a recent increase and the b@$t@rd$ want to eaise it another 30%. There is something about paying 2K on property you already own free and clear, and have for twenty years, that hurts ones feelings...

yeah mist i agree the property taxes and taxed period on stuff you own is complete bs. but if we don't pay for the out of control projects the gubment does who will? we digress lol

i am in the process of getting a sheath all done up for the 12 and will post pics when finished. i plan on it being one of my main hiking and woods bumming blades for sure

So, rather than clogging up the board with a lot of machete threads, I thought I would throw my pics in here. I just got my 12 incher today so it hasn't seen any use yet but I took some shots. Special thanks to Andy and Heber for a perfect set up. :D
