Hi folks. I just wanted to pop in here and announce that I am hiring a new apprentice. I pay my apprentices $12/hour. In addition to your salaried work for FF, I teach my apprentices to make a decent fixed blade knife. I also teach you about branding and marketing and help you set up a good logo, etc. You also get access to my shop and tools, and guidance on your designs.

Hope everyone here is safe and healthy.

Thanks for looking.

Sounds like a young makers dream.

I will leave it here because there really isn't another good place for this topic thread.
PLEASE, those who are interested contact Andy OFF THIS THREAD. Email or PM him ... but don't discuss it here.

I have to tell ya I sincerely wish I lived closer. I live in the mountains of West Virginia. If I had a place to stay down there I would work a week or two at a time and drive back home for a week. That's a once in a lifetime opportunity. You probably dont get many 43 year old apprentices lol but then again maybe that's not a bad thing. My work is all work it till you figure it out, no smiths or craftsman in my area but I've done well so far. Best of luck.

Thanks Vincent. I don't have any age restrictions on age, etc. I do need folks to be local though.

Get a cheap camper trailer and move down to Atlanta. I bet Andy will let you park behind the shop for a while. :D

I have been looking for a local apprentice for years with no luck.
My business is a little different, as it's mostly repair of vintage knives. But, someone could make an easy 100K/year after a few years.
Unfortunately, they would have to love knives of all types enough to constantly research them.

I've built my business with apprentices over the last 12 years. I guess I've been lucky. They didn't all work out. They didn't all graduate, ut most did very well, and benefitted from the system I have set up. I basically train them up for a trade, and estabolish a business for them that they can do full or part time. It's a good system.

$12 / hr! That's at least $11.78 more than an hour I currently get for this hobby. Sounds like a deal.
I was thinking the same thing. But then I thought how difficult it would be to move across the country with my 15 y/o husky and how much we'd "enjoy" the undoubtedly hotter and more humid summers.

Not to hijack this thread but since it seems Andy has found someone, anybody looking for a job in Mooresville North Carolina we are also hiring.

if you have good hand sharpening skills and a good attention to detail we have a job for you. Being a machine shop, our pay range is pretty good. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I am available, just need you to relocate to San Bernardino, Ca. I will work for free to learn.
