I have been giving this a lot of thought and finally decided to post this thread.

There are a lot of us here that like FF knives and naturally have different tastes and preferences. I thought that it would be a good idea to have people post their preferences here of what handle / steel combinations they prefer.

This would not only give the forge an idea of current market demand but also help some of us to maybe get the elusive knife we have been after. No compulsion for the forge to make the knives suggested here. This might also help when ordering materials.

If this doesn't make sense or is contrary to Andy's business model please feel free to remove the thread.

I'm all about thin steels . 3/32 is my favorite stock thickness. I like the A2 the forge has been using lately, it's great all around. Tough with just a touch more stain resistance, but still patinas a bit! I also like CPM 154. As for handles, I like the phenolic laminates. Shadetree materials are just stunning, and I love the smoothness of some of the micartas.

I'm a user type of guy and I love the 1/8" or thinner stock. Steel choice is the S35VN which is tough as hell, takes a fine edge and very corrosion resistant. As for handle material or scales, GRIPPY!!!!!! I love the beautiful woods especially Osage, but for me a nicely finished user knife/tool in micarta is my preference. Can you say mid-tech FB models?

Thin stock and longer handle options for a model in the 3-inch blade category. A Monarch-like blade on a Woodsman-like handle would do it. (Handle in the pic is 5 1/3" long.)

A run of production Recluse in 1/8 S35VN. :D

I'll echo the thin steels. I'm a fan of 3/32 and 1/8. 1/8 TT on some of the larger models would be cool to see.

I think I'm going to like the Osage Old Lady I just got, but I'd love another in 3/32 or 1/8 TT with some nice burlap. I much prefer the Old School Lady to the new one. Just my opinion. The lines are much more appealing.

Having "got here as quick as I could " I'm still like the proverbial kid in the candy store. That said, I prefer a thicker 5/32 and longer blade like the Monarch for camp tasks. That's the next one in my sights.

Completely agree with this part. 3/32" or thin as possible for the size of the knife, tapered if possible. A2 hasn't let me down at all and I'm happy with it but I'd kind of prefer CPM154 for a bit more corrosion resistance just to be safe.

For handle shapes, my hands most prefer the Fiddleback Forge Old School Ladyfinger and Handyman, Allen's Big Palmer/Inlander and Chris' Hunter. Keep in mind, these are my findings from the portion that I've actually been able to handle.

For handle material and use, I'm finding I like the grippy micarta/burlap over the woods. I just acquired an Osprey K&T Hunger in sandblasted G-10 and that stuff is great for getting a grip dry and gets even better when wet.

This is all good, but we both forgot something...

Commando Esquires! :D

It's ok because both Phillip and Andy read and posted to that thread and it's on their radar. Heck, they probably started on a batch of 10 3/32 A2 SFT commando black Esquires already.

Hah! You know, I had the exact same thought when I saw both of them post there.

They've probably got 6 of them done already.

On smaller & medium size knives I prefer 3/32. Anything over 1/8 in smaller knives is pushing it for me and the knife becomes partially unusable for certain tasks that I would use it for.

Handle materials, Ironwood, blackwood, Osage are my fav in woods. Don't like dyed burls.

Prefer OD, natural bolsters. Mint, glacial ice G10 handles are great as well.

Older style handles are a winner in my book.

I would like a 3/32 CPM 154 Monarch in a Shadetree burlap or sand blasted black canvas please.

This type of scale work really resonates with me:

I'd love to see one or more each week that delve into this style.
