Well i worked early today and since my wife and i work the same shift hours at the same facility, we carpool, thus i had some time to kill when my early shift was over and i was waiting for her to get off. It was under an hour so i went to the edge of the property and began to whittle the time away (pun intended) with the bk16 FPR
This is really the first time im done some real knife stuff with it, since the time ive had it only included one family hike which doesnt allow for much bushcrafting if any at all.
First thought, the Tommythewho scales are awesome. They are similar to the factory ergos and really make the knfie a joy to work with. I also have a wicked convex on it and this was the first time i really got to try it out. The knife is ALWAYS on my edc pack, lashed to the side using the molle attachments. I also carry some fatwood, a firesteel, and an orange SAK in the pouch for that rare time it may have to come off and be on my belt. Ive started to carry knives on my pack instead of my belt for two reasons, one comfort while hiking and two since the sheath would go where i wanna wear my holster. And the gun wins.
I did a little batoning. In reality this is the size stick that i would ever REALLY NEED to baton in a situation that called for it.
The did a little clubbing to make notches.
The convex held extremely well and it still popped hair and was a feather stick champion
Then something on a tree caught my eye. A black ball in a crotch of a branch. Scratched the black outer coating to reveal....
A sweet resin ball. This stuff is like napalm... Time to try out some pommel hammerin', which it also did great at. Of course the big boys with the perpendicular pommel work better, but it got the job done. Got a few pieces like this to put in my tin.
and some more future resin deposits on that tree
And then my time was up.......of course i didnt use any of this for an actual fire, since i was right near worked and that would probably get my arse fired.
Thanks for looking. I cant wait for the FFG bk16 to get here. I wanna see how they perform head to head. I personally like the FPR sabre since i feel it has more meat and the shoulders do a better job of splitting since they reduce friction. But the FFG is gotta be a good slicer and whittler. Time will tell
