Not sure if anyone knows anything about something like this but I haven't posted on a while so I thought I'd throw it out there. And apologies to any mods in a place if this belongs in another section. I'm on tapatalk so I don't think all the sections come up on my end.

But I digress. So I work graveyard shifts occasionally and sometimes days and I sit at a desk 8 hours and for 7 of those I cannot leave my "post" and if I can then I'm on camera at the building I work at. most likely. So bi have a habit of fidgeting with my knives when at home just sitting around relaxing or doing work even. Who can't resist a good spydie flick or a flip of a reloader or 0560 every now and then. But alas I cannot do these things at work due to not wanting everyone to think I'm some kind of serial killer because they are simple minded and afraid of a good EDC knife. So I was wondering it anybody knew of something relatively small that can replace flicking open a knife. Something that has a mechanical action to it, can be carried discreetly and doesn't look like a dangerous weapon or preferably any weapon. Even a custom maker that you've worked with who gives good service and who could engineer a device like this would be great.

Thanks all, let me know

And have a safe and good weekend

Get a Maxmadco bolt action pen. I drive my partner nuts with it. Any good clicky pen should work, but the bolt action's nifty.

Pen spinning works for me, and all you need is a regular pen/pencil. Started 10-15 years ago sitting in class bored, and it became a habit. It's good for keeping your hands busy. You can search the Internet or in particular Youtube for a lot of vids, but to start off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMPPN1WSK0A (you don't actually need to make a customized pen like that. I do it with whatever I have on me.) Also *IMO* it's better to learn to do tricks with a real pen over like a Baliyo, but it's not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

The Baliyo pen might be good, or a Rubik Cube. Some folks have taken up knot tying, sketching, reading, and even taking online classes. My boss told me years ago, "if you have time to fiddle-fart around between calls, you have time to improve your skills and ultimately get a better position." It sort of stuck with me and made sense.

I've done the pen spinning thing for years (just the basic one not the fancy stuff). The best thing about it is that if your boss sees you do it, your just sitting there with a pen in your hand, not "playing" with a toy. And nobody can mistake the pen for a knife (eek! how scary) like a balicomb or other gadget can be.

I remember seeing something on here some time back I don't remember the name maybe someone else remembers but basically it was two very small weight with a wire connecting them and you could twirl it between your fingers they are popular in the UK if I remember correctly hopefully someone else remembers the name of it

First thing that came to mind was the boker .45 bolt action pen. That would be something to look at. I think the idea of knots,a book, classes, and a rubix cube are good ideas. Hell you could make paracord bracelets, fobs, and lanyards with your time if you want to build something to really pass the time. Or get one of those model cares that you put together/ those all metal robot/crane build setsprobably will require a MT, but those things make hours fly by.

bic lighter, between your thumb and middle finger, center of the lighter, swinging hand back and forth you can get it to go around in a circle. It really kills the time. :)

Can you play games or read on a smart phone?

Other ideas:
- worry stone
- whittling - small pocket knife)
- origami
- juggling balls (chainsaws come later)
