I bought some Fiebings Professional Oil dye last weekend at Tandy and really like the way the color turns out with them. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between that and the stadard Fiebings Leather Dye?

I know the normal stuff is Spirits based and the Professional is Oil and Spirits based but how does that effect the final product or how do they varry in looks? I'm thinking of buying some Mahogany and Green Fiebings dye on Monday and would like to have an idea of what they are like. Thanks,

Heber

I use the pro oil dye in dyeing my bone scales, in most cases the spirit based won't touch it. I've also noticed a much richer color to the oil dyes on leather though usually more expensive.

Thanks for the information. I picked up all some Light brown, Medium brown and Dark brown of the Pro Dye from Tandy on Monday along with some of the Green dye. That Pro Dye is nice and it sure penatrates deep. Wow!!

The oil dyes help the leather by adding some of the oil back into the leather,
helping to make it last longer too.

One good tip is to be patient when you dye leather, don't rush it, let it settle down some
and you find it gives a more even finish.

Some leather takes the dye better than others, must be in the treatment from the tannery I'm sure.
I've had the best luck with the Wickett & Craig leather, very clean and works well.
