I have an 4oz bottle dark brown I meant to buy the alcohol based dye but bought oil by accident. Anyone of you fine sheath makers that use this stuff would like it just let me know. I will send it to you on my dime as long as you are in the U.S. and not in California hasn't even been opened. Rich

I have not tried it on a handle from what I understand it won't dry well on it and I wont be able to put Blo over it. I usually use Aqua Fortis and wanted to try something different. As far as leather work I have made a few attempts but I am afraid they didn't turn out very well. :o

I'll try it out! Been meaning to do some leather sheaths for awhile now. PM sent

It's yours Josh glad to send it someone who can use it let us know how it works for you.

Late to the party but I've used it to dye wood (maple) and stag. I believe it was what Bill Moran used on his handles. It works and it will dry.

I might keep a little and try it out on a scrap piece of wood . I dont want to ruin a Curly Maple haft if it doesn't work.

I've used it on curly maple & it worked well . Try light coat & wipe off quickly & repeat until as dark as desired .

If you have access to either, I had the pleasure to view both methods on Maple.........both pieces [were not my creations] were absolutely gorgeous ......

1. Rendered Birch oil

2. Rendered black walnut husks.

Getting the birch oil is harder than rendering walnut husks. To get the oil, you have to basically char birch bark in a certain manner to get the oil to drip into a collection can under the char can.

Black walnut husks are pretty much pulverized and boiled down in a solution to make stain.

Both subjects are widely posted on YouTube.
