It is that time of year again, deer hunting season, and it has been several years since I have been deer hunting. Last time I went, my dad gave me a Browning knife to use; however, I have been collecting knives for almost two years and I would like to get a recommendation from my current stock of knives for field dressing and possibly skinning a deer. Knives under consideration are:

Strider AR
Spyderco Lil'Temperance Trailing Point
Spyderco Titanium Salsa
Spyderco Gunting
Emerson Commander
Fred Perrin Street Bowie
Tops Sea Wolf

Or am I all off base and need to purchase another knife (ex: Spyderco Impala or Spyderco Chinook). Thanks for any input you can provide.

Serrated knives are not the best for what you want...;)

Any sharp plain edge knife with about a 4 to 5" blade will do a fine job. Key word being sharp...:)

I would go with the Spyderco Lil Temperance because of the smaller, more controllable blade. I will be using my small Sebenza because of the 3 inch blade. I think smaller blades work best :)

BTW- Good luck:D

I prefer a 3 - 3 1/2" drop point fixed blade with a handle that has a good grip when wet. Of the knives you listed, I'd probably go with the Strider AR.

From the list of knives you own, I would chose the Tops seawolf or the Strider AR.

The key word is sharp, and both Tops and Strider seem to have an edge [pun:rolleyes: ] on the others you listed;)

Not familiar enough with those to offer a good opinion. Just wanted to wish you a good hunt.

Of the knives listed, I would pick the Salsa.

I like drop point blades under 5" for deer hunting. A droppoint makes it easy to open up the belly with out messing up the guts. I don't like serrations, gut hooks and the like since they are not needed and tend to snag.

If you want a new knife (it is always a good idea to carry two knives anyway), take a look at the Temperance:

I am thinking of getting one myself.
