Field dressing point preference

Sharpfingers, and some "old style" field dressing knives had a lot of belly and were tip up. Nowadays, a drop point seem to be preferred. What are the practical differences? Is one better for different sized game? Is one more versatile? I have not hunted large game for many many years, but bought a nice upswept field dressing blade because I didn't have one, and lent it out for a couple of seasons to deer hunters to get their opinion, and all were very favorable to it even though they usually use drop points. Without defaulting to "personal preferrence", what are the pros and cons of each?

I've never field dressed game but i love the look and feel of my Shrade Sharpfinger. Great knife. Could be used for lots of bushcraft chores and even fillet fish and process small game too.

I prefer a clip point blade for field dressing whitetails here in PA. And a blade length of around 4" to 5" is just perfect.

4" drop point.A 'skinning' knife with a lot of belly is not needed as skinning a deer is mostly pulling with some cutting of membrane .Some just tie the hide to their truck and pull it off that way ! The first step of slitting the hide is done edge up and the drop point angle is just perfect for that job. Properly done the hide is then slit from breastbone to annus in one continuous motion.
