Looks like the FG Bodegas are now $695 w/o a fuller and $745 w/ a fuller.

That's a pretty steep increase from $555 for either a month ago...

I got to look at one the other day in Petaluma the town where it was born, And I liked it a lot, but Its just a knife, and the price point is a bit much for me to even consider a possibility, and it isn't.

I like the old style Bodega much better, with the fluted blade. Was excited about the Beggatti until I heard the price. Starting at $1600 and going up from there. That's way outta my league.

The original price could have been a typo.
When there's high amounts of demand, prices tend to inflate
It's rare that a manufacturer will increase their prices over 30% for inflation within a couple months. Chris Reeve (as an example) raised prices about $25 across the board, after years of selling knives at a specific price.

Man I've been trying to nail down a FG Bodega since they came out! $555 is hard to swallow. $700+ is a "no go" for me. There is nothing THAT special about it. As near as I can tell, the Bodega wouldn't really fill any niche in my rotation anyway even though I allow MUCH variation. It would fill the "fun toy" niche very well, but a Shirogorov & SnG DGG currently cover that financial ground. I look at the overall build and blade grind to choose where a knife fits in my selection for the day, or time of the day. This is an overly G10 & very expensive knife to fill the role of "I will likely be using a knife for various tasks today" knife. Flippers are fun and all, but a Microtech Socom Delta covers much of the ground of the FG Bodega.

The original price was not a typo, plenty of people paid that much. Pretty sure that price is cited in almost every field grade bodega buddy YouTube.

That was the big selling point was the price. With where it is now it's very close to the old bodega (which has more been 'temporarily' discontinued).

The old g10 bodegas were 850...

Not hating on them, they can do whatever they want but the old field grade price wasn't exactly a huge value for what is basically a production knife with a hand ground blade.

$700+ is full custom pricing for a lot of makers.

I've been pretty disappointed in the direction his FG bodegas are going really. I much prefer the fuller and seeing as the FG is only 105$ cheaper than the normal bodega I don't see why you wouldn't opt for the normal bodega.
It's just hard to compare it to other midtechs because his process is completely different and they require a good amount of handwork
Really without being able to choose your blade finish, not having many choices of inlays, and N690 steel(its good and not a big deal but other midtechs at half the price use it) at the price is disappointing.
As for the Beggatti its double the price as a standard bodega and I'm not sure exactly what big different your gaining its still all ti nothing really exotic and at that price you can get a ton of different options.
I really have nothing against Todd he makes amazing knives and you can't help but like him as a person super friendly I myself really want a pierced ti bodega but doubt I'll get 1 as its pretty hard to justify the price

Well the problem is the standard ti bodega is going away, possibly forever.

The beggetti is just ugly imho.

The highest I've gone is a couple of Hinderers, and they didn't stick around my house very long. If I can't do it with a Zaan or a Sebbie, I just can't do it.

Wait until you see the new titaniums coming out late next year. All of the versions are going up close to $300 from what I have been told. Hard to swallow a field grade at these new prices but the titaniums will sell since they will still be limited runs.

According to Begg the standard TI will be back the end of 2014 but the prices will be up $300 for each version. They were not making money!

They were making money. Knifemaking costs add up, but if done efficiently, it's not that bad. CNC and grinder/belt costs (and other associated equipment) are paid off within a hundred (or hundred fifty) knives or so. They use inexpensive steel and G10 for their lower priced line is very inexpensive. CRK is profitable and their knives sell for far less. It's nothing more than supply/demand, but IMO charging too much for a service makes me want to take my business elsewhere.

I fully agree with you but that is their story and they are sticking to it. I am so happy that I have my Bodega's at a somewhat reasonable price. I will not be buying the next generation.

Way too much g10 for $700...

Way too much. Plus it's just N690 which is not an expensive steel. I don't get it nor do I want to.

About a month ago I got one of their very nice Mini Glimpse Friction Folder (Carbon Fiber Smooth Finish) for a little over half the price!

sorry to bring an older thread like this back to life but I totally 10000% agree with this...they really need to get their business together...or at least answer the bloody emails...after no emails were answered and prices went up I just moved on.

I wanted a Bodega ever since I first saw one. When I saw the FGs, I was quite excited for an "affordable" version until I had one on loan for a week. It was probably the most disappointing knife that came through my hands. All the sculpting done on the G10 made it look even cheaper. The blade finish was just lackluster. To top it all off, it was an okay flipper at best.

The original price of $555 was pushing it, but $700? no thanks. I can get full customs from some makers for that kind of price.

Amen to that. The poor (very poor) communication is only one part to why I dumped my FG bodega. Their turn around time is the ONLY positive to the service they provide people. Communication is some of the poorest I have ever experienced. When I got my FG I was seriously disappointed. I sent it back and they sorta straightened it out and when i got it back I complained about something they did and they didnt return my email. I sent three more and still got no reply.

I was very lucky though and got the knife at the old price just before they raised it. If I had payed $700 for what I received I would have been terribly disappointed. They got it back to me and it was much better (flipping action was a bit slow and not as smooth as IKBS should have been) but it wasnt nearly as smooth as the original bodegas. IMHO the newer Field grade bodegas are a $300 knife tops for the standard FG. They claim at $555 they were losing money with each knife. They outsource the blades. I dont know who is making them.

All i know is if they cant turn a profit selling those knives at $555 then they really need to rethink how they are making them. There is absolutely nothing special about the knife. There are many production companies pumping out knives that have better quality materials and better fit and finish as well as better flipping action at less than half the price. I really tried to love the knife. But at the end of the day I was simply trying to justify the high cost because I didnt want to admit I was ripped off. I will echo what has all ready been said. Way too much G10 for way too much money. It is the epitome of paying a premium for a name.
