I've been waiting for this knife for over a year now.
Frankly, I'd given up on it.
I'd read it was out and was available, but where?!
Well, the other day I stumbled into my favorite knife shop looking for another knife and lo and behold, there it was! FINALLY!!
The other knife now forgotten, I took my prize home without even examining it in the shop as is my usual practice.
It has a nice and workably thin edge, the handle feels good and secure in my grip and the blade profile is as useful as I'd hoped when I first saw the prototype pic what seems like so long ago.
The best thing about the new Field knife, IMHO, is the fact SOG took the hardness level of the blade down to Rc60. BG-42 at this hardness should work well enough to hold a great edge and remove or ease concerns about brittleness that tends to manifest at higher Rc's.
I like the fact that SOG has made the handle scales removable so a person can upgrade or dress this knife up with Micarta or exotic wood scales if one should get the notion.
My only pet peeve(and it's a relatively minor one) is the thumb serrations on the spine. They are just too sharp for comfortable use, in my case anyway. I see that I'll be taking Mr. Dremel and knocking those down a bit.
Other than that, I'm liking this knife very much.
A great job fellas, take a bow!
