Up until now i have only worked with carbon steels because thats about all my kiln can handle for heat treat. I had a customer want a field knife in Elmax, so i had to send it out to heat treat. It only took two months.. but i am happy with the results. A new kiln is high on my purchase list so that will open up the doors on the steel types that i can work with. Anywas, Elmax is a great steel and is fun to work with. It was a pain to stone wash, but i think i can learn from my mistakes. It diffidently wont be my last time using it.

Here is an EDC type knife that i just finished up aswell. It was ground really thin and will make a nice slicer

Yeah the stonewash turned out great on both!!! Care to share how you do it?

Matt

I just give the blade a bath in ferric chloride for a while and then put it in my tumbler. The elmax is much more corrosion resistant than most carbon steels that i use so it required a longer soak time and a stronger mixture of acid.

Thanks!
