There are times in the wood when no matter how good your gear is you have a malfunction. It is times like these when you need to have some sort of repair kit. I have fixed my gear in the woods many many times. Some people use their PSK for this kind of thing. If I am going to be out for any length of time I like to have a dedicated field repair kit.

A quick break down:

100 lb dummy cord
Brass snare wire
14 ga copper wire
2 buttons
Gorilla Glue duct tape
Tent fly patch
Artificial sinew
1 glovers needle
1 pre-threaded sewing needle
2 safety pins
Waxed braided thread

All of this fits into a very small package.

If I know I am going to be on an extended trip, I bring this. It is a patch kit for my Thermarest. I also think I can use the same kit to patch a tent floor, or Goretex bivy and-or coat. It comes with a black and clear patch and adhesive.

Thanks fro the video! I have 2 kits but they are very similar to yours. I don't have any pics of them though.

I'd like to second Jeff's comment on the hot glue stick. They are very usefull and pack as small as you want. They are excellant for repairs and many other things like tieing flies for fishing, sealing small holes, secureing chord ends by dripping the melted glue over the ends, etc.

That's pretty cool IA! My kit is a little bigger; I like adding a compact tube of super glue, a couple of cord-locks and a few feet of shock-cord. A small glue stick (for craft glue gun) can work to seal and glue items together.

I like your natual sinew...I'm just using a role of dental floss and some kevlar type of fishing line.

A few zip-ties come in handy as well...

I have a couple of those little tins...good idea:thumbup:

I pack some waxed thread, a few needles, a sewing bobbin spool of spyderwire, duct tape, and glue sticks. Ive got snare wire and paracord too of course.

Good post Terry... A few well placed zip ties are great too. They hide very easy in most any pack.

I just carry duct tape, some garden twistees, and an extra boot lace. I havn't found anything I couldn't fix with one of these.

Good little kit! My woods walking kit has duct tape, superglue, and 550 cord. I should probably add a sewing kit as well.

Nice review Terry. As usual, a very well thought out kit that is a must have. My wife bought me some heavy weight nylon thread that feels like spyder wire on breaking strength, that and the needles I routinely pack are used quite often. I like the synthetic repair kit and inclusion of buttons, things I don't usually think about. I'll try to put something similar together for the overnighters of my future!

the little single use crazy glues are a nice addition (and weigh almost nothing); I found Gorilla tape to be superior to most duct tape; the braided fishing line (I use 40# test) is Spectra and very strong- I take a heavy needle and seal it in a coffee stirrer and then wrap 50' or so of the fishing line around it; I also like a few small zip ties

a little ss wire, few ranger bands and some asst safety pins (keep them under a flap of duct tape) round out my repair kit (I do also have an extra set of batteries for my headlamp, along w/ a clear patch from a thermarest repair kit)

Nice kit. But if your carrying a hot glue stick then carry a tea candle as well.

I usually carry 3 glovers needles and a large needle that I picked up at a saddelry shop. with dental floss and leather thread. Artificial sinew works good too and can be easily split down to finer threads.

Archery glue sticks, like you use for inserts and to glue heads onto wood arrows requires a lot more heat but can really hold!

I was just thinking the other day how this is an area where my kit needs to be beefed up. Up to now, I have not ever had a repair kit. I have been brainstorming about what will go in mine. Thanks for all of the ideas.
