I'm looking for a good way to sharpen my Cold Steel Gurka Kukri out in the woods. I bring it in sharp. But I want something light and small. And that is easy to do touchups in the field, but light and portable are essential. Mainly something to light touchups.
Please be specific like what grit or exact models, I am no expert sharpener. Just have a sharpmaker and a good strop.
Thanks so much

The spyderco UF SM rod or any of the SM rods would be good. Just pack a single rod and use it when needed to keep your blade sharp.

The Lansky above, and the Eze-Lap sportsmans rods are great for that , but be warned. When new , they are extremely coarse and agressive. I find them to be good field sharpeners after they have been broken in for a while. A good way to do this is to sharpen all your kitchen beater knives with them. They make a good, compact field sharpener and do a good job on recurves , machetes, or anything else.

how deep in the bush are you going that you can't wait to come home to sharpen it?

I sometimes go out for about 4-5 Days Backpacking, and I find that a sharp blade makes much easier work of chopping down firewood. Not that I have had much issues with the SK-5 Carbon steel on the Gurkha, but after day 2 there is a difference.
