I'm looking for a compact sharpener to carry in my BOB. Something for touch-ups and deburring. Thanks.

Great question!

Here is my latest set-up.

If you have a decent multi-tool it probably has a file. This would be good for decent sized nicks and re-grinding in a pinch or use on a hatchet or machete.

Then I grabbed up one of these little doo-hickeys:

Mini keychain crock stick for touching up while out in the rough.

I couldn't beat the price or the compact size.

How good of a job does it do? I had one of those a long time ago and I recall it wasn't that great.

Are you referring to the EZ Lap? If so.... I carry it because it does a fantastic job, if you know how to use a diamond steel rod. It's a bid different than a stone, but easier to use (for me) in the field.

I was referring to the mini keychain croc sticks. The EZ lap looks like it would work great. Thanks.

In the context of something small, and inexpensive, for use while in the field "for touch ups and deburring" it's more than adequate.

Just as an FYI, a while back I e-mailed Gatco to find out what the angle was on the Gatco Micro-X and their reply was that it was 45 degrees inclusive (22.5 degrees on each side).

I carry a DMT diafold in fine/extrafine. Sometimes also a chunk of leather with coarse compound on one side and fine on the other.

I've been using wet dry sand paper, 1 sheet of 300, and 1 sheet of 600.
Seems to work good for me and it's light.

I have one of the EZ Lap rods each set of my gear:thumbup: . I use them regularly in the field and touch up at home with sandpaper on mousepad.
