Hey guys, i have a small Arkansas stone that i carry with me in the field for my knives and axes and such. It works well enough for my hatchet and axe and hawks but it just isn't cutting the mustard for my knives. So what do you guys use in the field for your knives and or what would you recommend i pick up. Thanks in advance!

i use a lansky turnblock sharpener deluxe with the coarse and fine ceramic rods think cheap version of spyderco sharpmaker but alot smaller

Scott Gossman's video has helped me a ton while in the field

I have one of those ceramic dog bone things and it works great for touching up. It wouldn't do to sharpen a truly dull blade though.

A small Eze Lap diamond hone, the one in the little leather slip pouch...and a small, gray, round ceramic rod that I think is a Lansky. Both fit together in a 3"x5" pocket pouch I have.

Ragnar (Ragweed Forge) has a Hewlett 2 sided diamond card. DMT makes a Duofold 2 sided diamond sharpener. DMT and Eze-Lap make a one sided credit card sized diamond sharpener (I glued a piece of finer grit polishing paper to the back of mine). I've used the Hewlett and DMT cards and they work well. I have a Diafold and it also works well. I have fine/extra fine on mine but for the field, course/fine would probably work.

I have a DMT Dia-Fold and a Spyderco Double Stuff stone that ride in my Versipack. If I don't take the pack, then I'll just put the Double Stuff in my pocket.

This is what I've been using for about the last 10 years. In the kitchen or field!!!

Whatever works for you is great, but I wouldn't use any carbide sharpener myself unless I was in some survival situation. It seems to me that they remove about 8X more steel than necessary to achieve a half decent useable edge.

1st paragraph says it all - it's going to kill your knife long before it dies:

Speedy Sharp Knife sharpener is the most universal sharpener ever made. It is fast, durable, compact, fits in your pocket, tackle box, or hunting pack. It is made of MICRO 100 Super Carbide and will never wear out.
