Field strip...? Not yet!

I went camping again last weekend and brought my small plain Sebenza as usual. When I returned to work today I needed to open a box and reached for the Sebenza...I could barely open the knife with the stud!

I didn't use the Sebenza on Sunday (I had another smaller knife that did see use) and I discovered that while stabbing "Jimmys Wings of DEATH" on Saturday, some of the evil fluids had decided to make their home in the pivot area.

Luckily, I was at work. I hosed down the pivot with WD, rinsed in fresh water, blew totally dry with compressed air and applied lubricant.

Eh voila! Not a speck or spot, smooth action, as good as new. :)

I look forward to the day I need to take this sucker apart...but when will that be ?

Yes...down here in Memphis, we have De-Bo's Suicide Wings........I know what they do to my insides, I can only imagine what that suicide juice would do to a Sebby :D

Your day will come!

I don't know about "need", but I actually like to strip, clean, lube, and reassemble the sucker. I probably strip mine once a month, need or no need. It's amazingly like carrying a brand new knife every time.

While I'm pleased that CRK encourages owners to take down their Sebenzas and clean them out/lubricate, etc., and am extremely grateful for Anne Reeve sending me a wrench which didn't come with my 2nd hand Sebbie, I must confess that I sincerely hope that the day never comes when I feel the need to take it apart.

I have absolute zip in the way of mechanical skills or aptitude. I have an uncanny knack of breaking things. I'm very apprehensive that those 2 facts would combine to make me screw my Sebbit up real bad if I ever try to work on it.

I really envy those of you who enjoy doing such things. But, it is a mindset I know I'll never attain.

I have a large plain Sebenza and make a habit of a field strip and clean whenever it starts to freeze up. Ive been glad I did because on one occasion pits were starting to form between the blade and bronze bushings. I caught it in time so it was only minor.
Knives deserve all the care of guns, imo.
