Well, just got back from my little bow hunting trip and took my latest knife in hopes of field testing it. I thought I should share the results and link to the heat treat procedure I used on it. I am very pleased with how it performed. It did two buck deers, every thing from field dressing to the grinder (skinning, de-boning, trimming and cubing - the works) and still has its razor edge. Under a ten power loop I see no chipping. All I did do after each major step was hit it a few licks with a leather strop to straighten the edge.

If you like ATS-34 here is the HT procedure I used for this one: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=268993&highlight=ATS34

Oh, but don't you know, Roger, ATS-34 doesn't hold an edge??? ;) ;)

Sounds like a winner -- no pics of the knife in action?

An to think you could have used 154CM :D

Roger
you didn't say one of those bucks were yours

way to go on the test
nothing more fun than testing it the old fashion way...:D

That's great Roger. Very good performance. It truely is gratifying to have your own hand made tool perform like that. I hope one of those deer was yours. One question, will you be eating wild turkey?

Dan and Don, both deer I got - a couple spike bucks. If you buy all the bow stamps allowed here you can legally harvest three deer a season with the bow. I hope to go to a local area one day next week to do some more bow hunting. Our bow season lasts through December 31.

Don, I saw no and heard no turkey and saw no turkey sign. The mast is scarce this season and the acorns are wormy. We had a real hard winter here. I did shot a crow with my Ruger Slab-Side. Will that count??
