John White, JS has been on my short list of makers to buy for a couple of years. He built a very slick 7.5" ebony fighter that lasted about 15 minutes on a purveyor's website, two years ago. It really floated my boat, however I was just too slow to act, but I have kept my eye out for a similar piece.

John delivered an almost identical version of the knife at Blade 2006, and I had a chance to handle it and examine it close up. I was sold, it was only a question of when. John mentioned that he was planning on building a larger version of the knife with African blackwood and damascus fittings. He asked if I would be interested in it. :) I may be prejudiced, but I think it is his nicest blade to date.

The 9.625" blade is made of 1075 steel, the handle is African blackwood and the fittings are damascus with nickle silver spacers.

Very nice. This blade is lovely. I love this way to carve straight laminate damascus. The Japanese have a way to do that, called guri bori, which is very beautiful.

Peter T. Gill,

I love that knife!
John is an excellent maker and I am glad you were able to get one so quickly. I know his typical wait is about 2 years. I like his knives in general very , very much and consider his fit and finish up there with the very best. I really like the way he blends filwork into his knives where filework usually doesn't exist.
This is one of my favorites from his shop.

That's a terrific knife. John's work is first rate. I like the comparatively restrained amount of filework on this one. Very slick and streamlined piece.

I gotta agree with you Peter, that's the nicest I've seen from him so far.For some reason I kept thinking he was an MS,instead of a JS.

Peter,
That is the most tastefully done fighter I've had the pleasure of seeing
in quite a while, as Buddy mentioned, I would have thought MS as well.
Congrats and thanks for posting this stunning knife.

Doug :)

That is beautiful. I like that it is tasteful and impressive at the same time. An understated beauty, but not lacking complexity.

My, that's just a "Lovely" bowie, Peter! ;)

Seriously, I love it. :)

The fittings on that DO make it stand as an exceptional piece!

I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open for his works now, too!!! :D

Very nice piece. It's clean, the choice of materials very tastefull IMO (except maybe the NS, but not liking NS is just an obsession of mine :) ) and the proportions are great. The handle and ricasso seem exactly the same width and I find that visually pleasing. The butt carving is a winner. Congratulations
