Fight'n Rooster Barlow

I've always had a soft spot for the barlow. It was my first knife as a kid, an Imperial barlow with the imitation sawn plastic handles. Some of the men in my family carried a barlow back then, but it was a working mans knife after all.

I saw this one the other day at Arizona Custom Knives. Bill Ruple's take on a barlow.

my first knife was an Imperial barlow ( el cheapo) All my male older relatives had some type of barlow pocket knife. They had stuff like Camillus.

Ive never seen anything like those grooved bolsters. Any historical tradition to that? Or just look interesting?

Fight 'n Roosters were my first love of knife collecting. My favorites were the Sow Bellies, Balloon whittlers, and Lock Back Whittlers. I mainly collected Stag and Pearl...all but a choice few are long since ebay history. I still keep trying to buy a Captain's Rooster lock back whittler from a guy...but we've never been able to meet on price for going on 4 years now. Maybe in March I'll break down and buy it:D

I think I still have a pearl lockback whittler. I'll take a photo and post it here. That is a nice pattern.

I have a 12 blade pearl congress that is a keeper. They are great knives. Many years ago I bought 2 stag display knives by them. A three blade whittler, and a 2 blade. They are about 8.5 inches long, and always made me smile. I just sent the 2 blade to A. G. Russell for the cutting edge. I still have the whittler. They always made interesting patterns.
Dave.
