Found a real nice knife at an antique store today. It's a Fight'n Rooster 15th Anniversary Blade Magazine knife. It was half off at $45.00. The blades are gold, that is the only thing I don't like. Other than that it's a sweet knife: It's never been used, looks like real mother of pearl, nice blade styles, great snap, thin small blades, would make great slicer's. I wonder what the blade steel is? I love a good German knife! It's quite large (shown next to a Vic. Soldier). I think I want to carry and use this. Any reason why I shouldn't? Thanks.

other than its a vintage collectable and if you use it the blades will probably scratch easily as well as the etching. But no, go ahead and use it.

Well.... I get your point, and it's a good one. However, I've never collected anything. It's such a nice pattern too! :D

My general rule is that anything that was specifically created as a "collectible" never actually is. Oh, some people may actually collect them, but they will never really be significantly valuable. It's like all those Franklin Mint special collectible shiny things (all of which are worth exactly their precious metal content and no more). I'd use it if I really liked it.

Very few of the Fight'n Rooster Club knives or special editions gather additional interest among collectors. Enjoy it:thumbup:

If it was a Captain's Rooster, i'd say put it back;)

Would seem a little smarter to me to trade up unless you are dead set on that pattern. If there is another $80-100 knife that you like better, it wouldn't be hard to trade into it for the original $45.

But if you want a good cigar user; that is probably it.

Great score, carryin a fightin rooster tonight. Keep it

Looks like a great time to start collecting, many people collect this type of knife.
My main collecting interest is vintage production slipjoints, thats a nice one use it well.

The knife originally sold for $150.00. It was unavailable wholesale.

We ordered for the 15th anniversary of Blade as wanting to produce the best possible quality knife available at the time--something special. We went to Frank Buster and asked him what he felt was the finest knife he could come up with--and a pearl handled Anglo Saxon whittler was the result. At that time he as I recall he had not done any knives will all three blades gold plated.

Our cost on the knife was much more than $45.00 by the way.

I owned Blade Magazine at the time the knife was ordered.

That is a beautiful knife. Personally, I would use it- but then I use all of my knives. It would be interesting to see how the "gold" blades wear.

Nice score! $45 sounds like quite a deal for a knife that cost $150 in 1988.

TennKnifeman: Thanks for the great story behind the knife. I is a beautiful knife for sure! I got a hell of a deal!

moonwilson: Yea, I use all my knives also. It's bit me in the ass many times! I have'nt used it yet but I put a nice edge on the blades..... I couln't help myself! :D
