When it comes to anything survival related I always think 'simple is best '.

I came across this trap which I think was invented by a scary looking guy on Youtube who goes by the name of JohnJayRambo( Check him out he does some cool stuff) and it's about as simple as you can get.

When I made it on my garden I made the notch too low so sometimes when it triggered the trigger stick would hit the ground and still hold up the deadfall. Like any new trap you have to play around with it a little to fine tune them.

Give this one a try, I think you'll love it !!!!;)

I suspect that the spring tension would make it harder to trip than the fig 4 trap. How well does it work?

That didn't seem to be a problem, you can set it up so it trips very easily. The only problem was the one I mentioned where the bait stick hit the floor and still supported the deadfall !

Hey pitdog,

I love trap triggers. The cooler weather is on its way, so before long, I'll get out and try it.

I saved your pictures and the YouTube video to my trap folder. Thanks for posting it.

Cool trap pit!

What I don't like about it is the trigure baited end is not very far under the deadfall. If you make it longer and put it way under the deadfall then you run the possibility of it sticking in the dirt and holding up the deadfall.

Oh and that looks like a P and not a 9... :p

+1 on the length of trigger caveat. Also, since the trap relies on a springy (and therefore thin) trigger that also supports the deadfall it would seem to severely limit the weight of the deadfall (and increase trigger tension too much).
