Hi
Does anyone know of a file guide design that can be clamped around irregular shapes?
I do a lot of blades with forged finishes at the tang, and a significant taper around the tang. So the area where I'm trying to put in shoulders is often a trapezoidal based pyramid sort of shape. The generic file guide design doesn't really work for this, it's really designed for a shape with two parallel sides which is hard to do while forging

I have used leather to clamp pieces that where irregular before...or felt (like the stick on furniture protector stuff from walmart/lowes/home depot.)

The one I made is kept parallel by pins that are removable. The screw holes are oversized and have a set of spherical washers. With the pins removed I can clamp angles up to about 10 degrees. If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I can dig it out and post a picture.
