File on New Leatherman Wave

I have an obsession for multitools and over a span of 8 years I was able to gradually collect 8 multitools of different brands and models. My first multitool was a Leatherman Supertool and the latest addition to my collection is the New Leatherman Wave.

The Wave is a nice tool and my only remark is about the file on it. One side of the file is diamond coated which is ok for me, but the other side is not sharp. It can’t even be used as a nail file and it looks and feel like a knurled surface than a file. What is the intended use for this file.. or is it a factory defect? The file on my Supertool is much better.

You might have a dud. My new wave has angled cuts like a bigger file. The angle is all one way as opposed to the criss-cross on the Surge file. I use these files for minor deburring or knocking the edge off a piece of metal.;)
 
Ditto. I have 3 "new" Waves, and the files have that sandpaper-like (diamond?) coating on one side, and cross-cut like a "real" file on the other.
 
I agree, my file is great. I'd guess you got a dud. Any chance it was used before you got it?

I don't think my Wave is a dud. It was shiny and free of any scratches when I got it, and it has the same fine workmanship as my other 4 LM tools (Squirt S4, Squirt P4, Kick, Supertool).

The only component that I am not satisfied with my Wave is the file. I wanted to attached pictures but I don’t know how. I joined this forum few days ago.

Could be just the file isn't made right to begin with. Mine's pretty good, but I've only used it as nail file.
 
looks like mine, I don't think it's a dud.

I agree, it's not the best file out there.
 
Looks the same as mine,the diamond side is great the other does seem a little dull.Think it's just the way there made,not a dud.
 
My apologies...when I looked at your pics and saw a criss-cross file I rechecked mine...I don't know what I was looking at before, but you have the same file as mine. :confused:

I love my Wave and I am now convinced that it is genuine. The wave is always on my hip all my waking hours.
