Dan,

What kind of program is it? Sound like some kind of CNC software.

Bill
yes I want to put some of my patterns on disk in that format to save and for easy of transfer for that type work also..I have a few deals in the works to get a head start on..:)

Dan,

You may want to check this out. It's a free CAD program I use. It's very easy to use and if you ever want parts cut out for you, it's a breeze. I design and save all my patterns this way. When I want to make a knife, I just print out the patterns and glue them on the stock.

hijacking a bit how do oyu go about using emach. to figger out pivot placing on a folder and how can you set the main grind line i have played around with the program but played is the best way to describe it :o

Dan,

You can save to a .dxf file which is a standard CAD file format. Not much else in the way of exporting the file. If I need to save as a file that others can use, I save it as a .pdf. (You got to have the full blown version of Adobe Acrobat to do this.

It won't tell you where to place the pivot but it makes it easy to move the pivot wherever you want to experiment. Make the blade and liner seperate from each other. Once each is drawn, Select all the lines for each one and combine them. This will make the blade 1 line and the liner 1 line. You can them move the blade into any position you like. Draw a 1/8 circle as the pivot. I use the 40% rule to start for pivot placement. Place the pivot 40% of the scale width from the bottom of the scale and the same distance from the front of the scale. For example. if your liner is 1" wide, place the pivot .400 from the bottom of the liner and .400 from the front of the liner. Once the pivot is placed, move the blade over the liner and the pivot you just placed. If you double click on the blade, a pivot point will show. Move this over the pivot you drew. Now you can pivot the blade over the liner and work on the fine tuning.

I hope this helps, I'm not very good at explaining things in detail.

Another idea is to view the tutorials that are avaiable for the program. Lot's of good stuff on there.

with E/M can you put a drawing on another file with the grid lines smaller? with out changing the rest of the pattern?

I drew up one pattern but have the grids spaced too far apart, or I should say the grids are not small enough? so I can fine tune the curves.. I wonder if the nudge option will get around that?

Dan,

There are a couple of things you can do. One is that you can right click on the drawing and shut off the snap options. Secondly, you can go into the edit>preferences menu and change the spacing between the grid marks.

Hope this helps

thanks Bill
I was messing with it some more and got it by nudging.
the problem with spacing between the grid marks was I thought, was because it had a drawing all ready there I'll try that on the next one.
is it normal for it while saving to 3.5 to save as .EMS ?
if I save it on the HD it saves as .DXF OK..

Save them all as EMS unless you are transferring to another program.
Bill Have you tried to e-mail a DXF file from this program?
I have it now saved as a DXF file and it attaches OK.. but when e-mailing it, it comes up empty on the other end?
