Do you let thhe epoxy inbetween the handle slabs fill in the file work?

Up until a while ago I did not. I thought it looked much nicer without epoxy. A friend of mine pointed out to me though that if it is a using knife, all those little file marks would be a perfect trap for blood, fat, dirt and god knows what else a skinning knife would pick up. It would be the perfect spot for rust! Hope this helps.

Yes I let the epoxy fill in the voids.
For the same reason Hugh does (plus it looks nicer IMHO ).

I like the looks either way myself. One question though, how sturdy is it having the epoxy filling in the grooves I mean wont it chip out on a using knife and then look bad....Bruce

You could also tint the epoxy. Black epoxy with a light colored wood handle and polished filework looks nice. It gives good color contrast.

In response to Bruce's question, I would say it all depends on how deep the file cuts are. Mine go about 1/8" down towards the center of the tang and thus have had no problems with glue coming out. Before I started to fill the spine with epoxy, if an errant glob of glue oozed into one of the file cuts, it was a real bugger trying to pick it out. Hope this helps.
