Here's one I finished just after the first of the year. Another of my guard-less hunters, dressed up a bit.

Specs:
Hand Forged from 1075 steel, clay quenched and etched
8 1/2" overall, 3 3/4" blade, .185" thick at the ricasso w/ full distal taper
'Twisted Steel' file-worked spine
Rounded ricasso edge
Black g-10 fluted collars
Coined copper spacers w/ damascus band
Stabilized Curly Koa handle

All comments and discussion welcome.

Ooh , the copper and black fittings look fantastic together. How do you align your fittings? Do you use alignment pins?

I love looking at these, John.

Thanks much Gents! I appreciate it.

Shane- you guessed it. Hidden alignment pins are the way to go on something like this for sure.

Wow, that's super classy!!! Sweet hamon. May I ask how you do the filework on the spine?

Thanks again all!

Sure. With an 1/8" round file. ;) :) Thanks for the good words.

not only is it a great looking shape, but the perfect piece of wood, an outstanding hamon, some classy looking filework then the spacers to top it off... and the combination of the piece is greater than the sum of those many parts you put together so well. Terrific job on that one.

So clean and the file work along the spine is fantastic. It catches the light and looks amazing.

All I can say is WOW!!! That is a working piece of art my friend!

I'm very fond of Hawaiian Curly Koa. I'm in the process of designing a fiberglass fly rod that a close friend is builidng me and was going to go with KOA until i found some amazing Snakewood for the reel seat and grip accents. My search for this wood led me to seeing all sorts of cool wood, alot of which were in the form of knife scales....which led to me finally building my first knife...which I'm in the process of right now!

I' will definitely be doing a knife with KOA down the road, once I hone my skills a little!
