I'm getting ready to stack and weld some damascus tomoro, useing two big old Black Diamond Files and some saw blade. Eight layers of file steel, and Seven layers of saw blade to start with.

Should I grind the theeth off? I've welded a piece or two befor with no problems, but never in a stack befor. I did grind the surfaces a little to brighten them up and make sure there were no rust pits.

Thanks

i would. i have made some damascus of the same material. before i decided to grind the teeth off i tried forging the file flat no matter how thin i beat it the file pattern was still there i also tried forgeing three farriers rasps together seemed to weld up good until i went to grind there were quite a few iclusions in the blade
grinding it smooth will lesson your chances of a void or iclusion
hope this helps RUSS

I never do Will,But then again you do have a 50/50 chance of getting inclusions this way also.If it isn't to much trouble I guess I would say yes.
