This is my first shot at doing filework and I KNOW there are many experienced file-ninjas on this forum! From what you see here, what do you suggest I do next time to make it worth looking at? Is there a special type of file you use? I know there has to be a thread about this somewhere but I really suck at finding such things so I'm sorry if this is a clone.....

Here's lame attempt #1

Thanks for any help!

Not a pro by any means, but I think it looks good. If you think it looks like crap, then you already know what looks like crap and how to make it look better. If you see your flaws, try and fix em. But I like it.

I agree, it looks pretty good so far. A friend of mine that does silver smithing and assorted jewelry making by profession once told me that he practiced on small paint stirring sticks, and ultimately thin/small popsickle sticks. He claimed it assisted in the overall development of his technique without worrying too much about the outcome.

That's some really good advice! I can see practicing on something like that would be way better than junk knives. I only have a few of said knives anyway, lol.

You need to polish the cuts. "Filework" with file marks looks crude. Your pattern is good, but you could tighten it up a little-make the cuts closer together.
