I like RMK's - I also like filework. But do I like filework on a Randall? I hadn't thought so, until I saw this Smith Bowie;

It's very well done, the work shows a great deal of talent, and somebody knew there was a high potential of messing up a very expensive knife. So they took their time.

To the best of my knowledge, filework is NOT available as a factory option, and this was stated to have been performed by a gentleman in Connecticut.

What do you think? In the past, it never would have occurred to me to have a Randall fileworked.

Do you find this to be a violation of some Randall owners code?

Generally, any after-market modification of a Randall diminishes the value of the knife, no matter how well-done it is. That said, if it makes you happy, I see nothing wrong with it.

It's a tool...filework it and paint it purple if you want to.

Bo would have been happy to see you *use* it.

The mini choil at the bottom is nice. I don't like the way normal wear looks on a blade run all the way to the hilt. I also dont like missing 1.5" of blade to make a choil. On a double hilt knife they are ugly as hell, and uglier the bigger they get. RMK seems to be making them longer and deeper nowadays. Gary flat out refuses to make them smaller i guess he is worried about fake mini randalls popping on the market, its really a shame they make great knives, i wish they would look for one that just happened to be smallest outof a batch and fill an order with it. But there is no way to ask for a special feature its too complicated for their prpduction.

As far as the busse type scallop work on the back i nearly regurgitated when i first saw that on AKC. :D.
