As promised, a few basic steps of filigree making. I use 28 gauge (.0125" thickness)
fine silver wire for my filigree leaves. I prefer fine silver because it is more resistant to heat
and fire scale than sterling silver.
I twist the wire using my Foredom tool until the wire breaks. Next, I coil the wire tight, bind it
with the binding wire and anneal it using my Smith propane torch.
I repeat twisting and annealing steps a couple of times. Next, I flatten the wire using a rolling
mill. The width of the flattened wire is about .024" and the thickness is about .012".
I coil the wire into a desired shape
and make a frame out of 22 gauge flattened sterling silver wire.
Finally, I solder filigree leaves with medium silver brazing paste and bend them any way I want.
