Filing down a blade stop?

Ok on a few of my slipjoints the blade is cantered foreward. That or the springs are raised above the handle to a point of annoyance. Sadly most of my knives are no longer in production or there is no company left. How do you guys go about filing back the part of the blade that hits the springs and makes the knife in the open position? Is there some super small file you use? Or sandpaper?

I've used a diamond sharpener with good results. Just go slowly as to not go too far and have something bottom out on you.

But I cant seem to get anything to fit in between the blade and the liners. It is such a small space on the slipjoints.

Maybe I'm not envisioning this correctly, but can't you file it while it is half-open and that part of the blade/tang is exposed, after it is out of the liners but before it closes and meets up with the spring bar?

That is what I have tried but there isn't enough room for the tools I have which are just full size files and some sandpaper.

You can purchase diamond compounds, sprays, etc. from lapidary supply websites and apply them to anything small enough and firm enough (that's what she said:o) to get your job done. Bonus being that you can also use leftover compound/spray for stropping. They also have tiny diamond surfaced tools at those places that would probably fit, but that's a bit much. Go for the compound or spray.
